Boreal, at 7,200 feet, capitalized on recent snowfall and snowmaking, creating a 24-inch base with 15-20 snow guns. A terrain park with 13 features will be available.
The Tahoe resort is opening a week ahead of schedule, while other Lake Tahoe ski resorts, Northstar and Heavenly, have delayed their seasons due to poor snowmaking conditions.
Opening day festivities will last until 8:00 p.m. Lift tickets will cost $25, including a $5 donation to local nonprofits. Boreal’s spokesperson, Tucker Norred, noted the resort’s plans to expand its open slopes in the coming days.
Last year, Boreal opened in late October but temporarily closed before reopening.
Mammoth Mountain, CA, and Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, NV, opened for the season on November 10.
