While ski resorts across North America are slowly starting to close for the season, one resort in the Midwest refuses to call it quits just yetโand perhaps anytime soon. On April 7 and 8, Boyne Mountain in Boyne Falls, Michigan, fired up snow guns across the hill to help hold on to the last of winter.
This 2024-25 season was exceptionally good at Boyne, with OpenSnow estimating 124 inches of seasonal snowfall for the resort. In addition to plentiful natural snowfall, the legendary crew at Boyne was able to stack up over 30 hours of snowmaking during the month of March alone. This extra boost helped set up the mountain for an amazing spring of slushy shredding.
In years past, Boyne Mountain and Mount Bohemia, located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, have had a friendly competition to see which ski area can stay open the latest in the state. Thanks to recent investments in snowmaking infrastructure at Boyne, it looks like this could be their year. The “Victor Glacier” is a mellow, blue ski run that has been completely transformed throughout the season into a heavily snow-farmed slope that currently has an astonishing 200 inches of snow, with more in the making. The current goal: ski and snowboard until Memorial Day.
Operations at Boyne Mountain have officially switched to Saturdays and Sundays only, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., until April 20, 2025, with as much terrain open as possible. After that, the Victor Glacier will stay open on weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until Mother Nature says so, with sights all the way out to Memorial Day weekend. With spring activities like golf and mountain biking quickly approaching, but skiing and snowboarding showing no signs of departing, itโs the perfect time to get a two (or even three) sport snow day in Michigan.
