Report from January 24, 2025
On Friday, we got out into the BC backcountry just to look around.
And find sunshine.
We needed sunshine.

So we started walking in the shade and 7ยบF temps.
And we kept walking in the shade and cold temps for hoursโฆ
After 3 and a half hours photons from our nearest start finally tickled our skin.
I now fully understand why ancient cultures worshiped the sun.
Itโs the root and cause of all life on Earth.
It really is our God, our reason for being that we canโt live without it.
I ruminated on this for another hour before we hit our summit for the day.
It was gorgeous up there but we wanted more.
Aaron saw a little notch on the mountain just across the way with steep terrain and he couldnโt resist.
All he does is make good calls so I followed along.
It was a good call.
The top was steep and sluffy with one long donger in the runout.
We both thrashed down and popped off the donger in celebration.
From there we cut over to a bizarre frozen waterfall-filled chute weโd seen a week earlier from an oblique angle.
Weโd planned on skiing it together but Aaron fell over in the flat light and I kept going.
It was beautiful.
The runout was filled with sunshine, dongers, and happiness.
We assumed it was pretty much all over but we were wrong.
Wild, low-angle, pillow spines gracefully lowered us down to the valley floor.
Our favorite tour of the month?
Maybe soโฆ
Thanks, BC!
And that folks, is what skiing in BC looks like when itโs barely snowed in a month
