By time the first unit arrived on scene, it was reported the vehicle was already fully engulfed in flames. The East Grand Fire Department arrived on scene and promptly extinguished the fire. The owner of the camper van had begun using a fire extinguisher from the vehicle to tackle the blaze before crews arrived, according to the department.

Investigators determined that the cause of fire was the result of mechanical engine failure. Five surrounding vehicles received cosmetic damage from the extreme heat. The occupants were already outside of the vehicle at the time it started burning. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.

The Mary Jane road was closed for approximately thirty minutes to allow Emergency Vehicles access to the scene.
