47″ of Snow in 24 Hours CLOSES Catedral Ski Resort in Argentina

Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina is getting nuked on right now.  They’ve gotten 120cms (47″) in the past 24 hours on the upper mountain and it’s still snowing hard.  It snowed so much that the power is out and the ski resort is closed due to the loss of power and extreme risk of avalanches.

Bariloche the town is lower than Catedral and only gets snow a few times per winter.  Today, there are places where the snow is 20-inches deep in town.

“La Cooperativa de Electricidad Bariloche informa a los usuarios que la tormenta de nieve que se precipita sobre nuestra ciudad y que en algunos puntos de la ciudad acumuló mas de 50 cm de nieve con características húmedas causa caída de ramas y afectaciones sobre los troncales de diferentes Líneas de Media Tensión en diferentes puntos del área servida.” – Bariloche Electric company

TRANSLATION:

Basically, this note is the Bariloche Electric Company letting people know that due to parts of the town of Bariloche getting 20-inches (50cms) of wet snow, lots of branches have ripped off trees and caused widespread power outages.  Cool.

Catedral is going to be looking pretty sick after this storm and we’ll be there for the season starting in the end of July.  Game on.
