Current Conditions
An atmospheric river is currently concentrated in Northern California. It’s bringing heavy snowfall to areas like Mount Shasta, which has already received over 40 inches of snow. Light snow is beginning to fall in the Tahoe area, with heavier accumulations expected soon.
Upcoming Storm Systems
Several storm systems are forecast to move through the region over the next week:
- The current system will continue to affect Northern California and parts of Idaho and Northwest Montana through November 22.
- A second wave will hit the West Coast on November 23, expanding the snowfall to more areas.
- Additional systems will follow, bringing snow to Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado from November 23 to November 29.
Snowfall Predictions
Tahoe Region:
- Up to 10 inches are possible through November 22, with the heaviest snowfall expected on the afternoon of November 22.
- Potential for 1-2 feet, possibly up to 3 feet, from November 23-30.
Utah (Wasatch Range):
- Snow accumulation starting late on November 23.
- 2-3 inches are expected by early November 24, with significant additional snowfall in the following days.
- Potential for 2+ feet totals from November 23-30.
Colorado:
- Light snow beginning afternoon of November 24.
- The heaviest snowfall is expected November 25-27.
- Forecast updated to 1-3 feet for most resorts from November 23-30, including Vail, Aspen, Steamboat, and others.
Other Notable Forecasts:
- Tetons (Wyoming): 2+ feet possible.
- Idaho: About a foot of snow is expected.
- Interior British Columbia: 1-2 feet for resorts like Fernie, Kicking Horse, and Revelstoke.
- Pacific Northwest: 1-2 feet along the Cascades.
Temperature Trends
Using Alta, Utah (9,000 ft elevation) as an example:
- November 21: High of 36ยฐF
- November 22: High of 39ยฐF
- November 23: High of 32ยฐF
- Temperatures are expected to drop further as the stormy period progresses.
