Colour the Trails, Tourism Revelstoke, and Revelstoke Mountain Resort have partnered up to host an exciting new outdoor summit. The goal: celebrate winter pursuits and bring together BIPOC adventurer seekers. The first annual Colour the Slopes Summit is a four-day event, taking place from December 8 through 11, 2022 in Revelstoke, BC. The summit will be held specifically for Black, Indigenous, and racialized individuals with a love for the mountains.ย
Attendees will gather collectively to sharpen their outdoor skills, try new activities, and celebrate the BIPOC Community. Adventure activities include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, Nordic skiing, and ski touring. Post-activity events include film night, aprรฉs, guest speakers, dinner, music, and dancing. Different activity packages are available and registration is now open.ย ย
As the Colour the Trails community grows, founder Judith Kasiama is bringing her vision to life to make the outdoor world more inclusive. A woman of color, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo, skier, athlete, advocate, and overall awesome human, Judith is working hard to create a space for BIPOC in outdoor sports. Colour the Trails, is a grassroots Vancouver-based organization that provides an entry point for BIPOC, LGBTQIA members, and allies interested in outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, climbing, and kayaking in places where they otherwise might feel unwelcome.
“We can be as colorful as we like in the outdoor space because at the end of the day nature doesn’t discriminate. It’s humans who discriminate. Nature welcomes us all.” – Judith Kasiama
