A body was found last week Wednesday, August 2, 2023, next to the Harris Hill Ski Jump in Brattleboro, VT. Police responded to a call after hikers had found a body near the base of the Ski Jump. This week police ruled the death to be homicide.

The body was identified as Timothy Barbour, a 59-year-old local who according to the Brattleboro Reformer had grappled in the past with substance abuse disorder and had priors for armed robbery and assault.

The Harris Hill Ski Jump was the vision of Fred Harris of Brattleboro who founded the Brattleboro Outing Club and the Dartmouth Outing Club. The ski jump is the only 90-meter jump in New England and the newest Olympic size 90-meter jump in the country as it was rebuilt from 2006-2008 according to International Ski & Snowboard Federation ‘FIS’ standards. The jump annually attracts ski jumpers from all over the world for ski jumping tournaments.
