Eileen Gu has solidified her place in freeskiing history by claiming her 15th FIS Freeski World Cup victory at the Winter Games NZ 2024, held at Cardrona Alpine Resort, New Zealand.ย

This win makes Gu the all-time leader in World Cup titles for both men and women at the young age of 21. Competing in challenging weather conditions, Gu dominated the halfpipe with a final run that scored 96 points, featuring a switch right 900 and a left cork 1080. Her closest competitor, Canadaโ€™s Rachael Karker, couldnโ€™t match Guโ€™s amplitude or technical prowess.

Cardrona, one of New Zealandโ€™s premier ski resorts, offered a tough environment for athletes. But Gu rose above the rest, stomping all three runs in first place, once again proving why sheโ€™s considered one of the best freeskiers in the world. Many other athletes struggled to put down clean runs or were too cautious due to the poor visibility and wind.

This victory was particularly meaningful for Gu, as it was at this same venue that she first reached the World Cup podium five years ago. Since then, her career has seen a rapid rise, with her World Cup victories, along with her gold medal performances at the Winter X Games and the 2022 Winter Olympics, cementing her dominance in the sport.

Her 15 World Cup wins, spanning multiple seasons, showcase her longevity and commitment to the sport. With victories in slopestyle, big air, and halfpipe events, Guโ€™s versatility across different disciplines further highlights her as one of the greatest freeskiers in history. Her dominance in the halfpipe is especially noteworthy, as she continues to raise the bar with her creative approach and flawless runs.

As the sport continues to grow, Guโ€™s influence will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, inspiring the next generation of freeskiers to push the boundaries of whatโ€™s possible on the slopes. With her record-breaking 15th World Cup win, Gu remains the athlete to beat in any freeskiing competition.

This historic achievement at the Winter Games NZ is just the latest chapter in Eileen Guโ€™s remarkable career, and itโ€™s clear that she will continue to shape the future of freeskiing for years to come. Keep an eye on her future competitions as she looks to expand her record and leave an even greater legacy in the sport.
