Winter came early this year in Lake Tahoe. After getting approximately three feet of new snow in the past seven days, Vail Resorts-owned mountains Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Northstar will be opening for the 2022-23 season ahead of schedule on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Because of the recent snowfall, Vail Resorts pushed up the Heavenly and Northstar openings by almost a week and Kirkwood’s opening by nearly three weeks, which was originally scheduled to open on Dec. 2.ย

โ€œWe are thrilled to welcome skiers and riders back to Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood for the upcoming season even earlier than we anticipated,โ€ Tom Fortune said, VP & COO of Heavenly and the Tahoe Region. โ€œMother Nature came through for us, allowing natural snowfall to fly and pile up while also giving us the temperatures needed for our snowmakers to do their best work.โ€

Here’s the early-season terrain that will be accessible at all three resorts:

  • Northstar Lifts: Big Springs Gondola will open at 8:30 am with Vista, Arrow and Big Easy starting at 9 am.
  • Heavenly Lifts: Tram, Gunbarrel, Patsyโ€™s and Powderbowl will open starting at 8:30 am.
  • Kirkwood Lifts: Chair 5 (Solitude) will open starting at 9 am.

Welcome back, winter.ย
