Epic powder and bluebird skies – What more could you ask for? The biggest problem today was so many great lines to ski and perfect pow on all aspects. Where to go first in this huge accumulation of ski resorts? We started our day close to home in Stuben, which has a lot of great north facing runs. Good choice, just like any other today. The snow was just amazing and it kind of reminded me of that velvety AK powder that is just so effortless to ride.
This week actually started off with a crazy storm that brought extreme winds and lots of rain and also snow. Which left most of the mountain wind hammered on Tuesday with great smooth moist powder a lot of places. But below 1600m it was 5-10 cm on a super hard crust of old tracks. Wednesday and Thursday it snowed down to the valley again dropping a total of about 40-50cm. Today no wind, sun and deep fun!
By late afternoon the snow that got direct sun got a touch moist and when it got shade later it left a tiny crust. But no worries plenty of blower powder still to be found.
The base is very decent now and tree runs are on again all the way to the valley. The upcoming week we’ll have pretty high temperatures and the high pressure system will hang around, which will be a great opportunity to go touring and go high.
