Most people who climb Colorado’s 14ers do so in July and August, the peak time for violent afternoon “monsoon season” thunderstorms.
However, Denver meteorologist Chris Tomer explains why the weather is often more stable and enjoyable for climbing these 14,000-foot peaks before and after the main summer season.
Fall, in particular, is often a spectacular time of the year to climb Colorado’s high peaks due to the crisp, cool mornings and sunny, cloudless days.
