The first deep turns of the 2024-25 season in Colorado were made at Silverton Mountain and Wolf Creek yesterday after a snowstorm dumped enough snow for skiing this weekend.
Staff at Silverton Mountain woke to 12″ of fresh snow at the summit and 8″ at the base area.ย Similar numbers were reported at Wolf Creek, with 5″ overnight and 12″ in the previous 72 hours.
“OCTOBER 19TH, 2024: Woke up to 8โ+ of snow at the base area and 12โ+ at the top of the lift at Silverton Mountain. Got out for some early-season product testing, and itโs safe to say weโre gearing up for an unbelievable winter.”
Snow fell at other resorts across Colorado over the weekend, covering most ski areas in white.
Snowmaking has begun at Loveland, A-Basin, Copper, and Keystone, meaning the #RaceToOpen is on.

Additional snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches with locally higher amounts above timberline on favored peaks. * WHERE...Northwest San Juan Mountains and Southwest San Juan Mountains. * WHEN...Until 9 PM MDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
