Former NHL defenseman Tomรกลก Klouฤek tragically passed away at the age of 45 following a skiing accident in ล pindlerลฏv Mlรฝn, Czechia. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 16, when Klouฤek lost control at high speed and crashed into a power pole at the edge of a ski slope. Despite the rapid response of rescue teams, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Klouฤekโs wife, Barbara, confirmed the devastating news in a heartfelt social media post on Monday. โYesterday my husband, my universe, my love, the father of our children and your friend Tomรกลก Klouฤek left us forever after a serious accident,โ she wrote, asking for privacy as the family grieves.
Klouฤek was born on March 7, 1980, in Prague and was drafted 131st overall by the New York Rangers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. A physically imposing defenseman, he played 141 NHL games between 2000 and 2004 for the Rangers, Nashville Predators, and Atlanta Thrashers, recording two goals and eight assists. He later returned to Europe, competing in the Czech Extraliga, KHL, and Franceโs Ligue Magnus before retiring in 2017.
The accident took place in ล pindlerลฏv Mlรฝn, one of Czechiaโs premier ski resorts.
