Mineral Basin is arguably one of the most significant lifts at Snowbird. It services hundreds of acres of epic bowl terrain on the backside and is a key part of the Alta-Snowbird interconnect. Unfortunately, the resort seems to be having trouble with it.
Snowbird Announced on February 28 that Mineral Basin would be closed from March 1 through March 7, due to mechanical issues. Since then, the repair process has reportedly been delayed multiple times due to poor weather conditions on the summit. The lift itself is a High-Speed Quad, manufactured in 1999 by Garaventa CTEC, slated for replacement by the resort in the next few years by a High Speed Six chairlift.
With Mineral closed, the accompanying Peruvian Tunnel and Baldy lift are closed, along with the Alta interconnect.ย Skiers can still access Snowbird from Alta via the Keyhole gate, but with the High Baldy Traverse closed during elevated avalanche risk, it often remains impossible to access Alta from Snowbird.
Late last week the Snowbird snow report claimed that Mineral Basin would open early this week, however, this now has been changed to “the next few days.” Thankfully, all of the parts necessary for the repair are now on site, so hopefully the resort can get Mineral Basin open again soon.
