With the Critérium de la Première Neige ski race set for December 14-15 in Val d’Isère, France, a team of ski safety specialists from MBS, a French engineering company, is hard at work preparing its slopes for this high-stakes Alpine Ski World Cup competition.
MBS, which specializes in slope safety and equipment, has partnered with the Val d’Isère Sports Club for over a decade to ensure the race runs smoothly. Their role includes setting up safety nets, protective mats, and competition poles—crucial for protecting skiers who reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.
This year, MBS will deploy its advanced “World Cup” safety system on the Face de Bellevarde, a notoriously challenging 3 km slope with a steep 36% gradient. The system uses specially designed poles and double-layered nets to protect both racers and spectators without requiring heavy equipment or permanent infrastructure.
Another standout feature is the custom-designed start cabin at the top of the Giant Slalom course. Built by MBS, the cabin provides athletes with a focused space to prepare before tackling the demanding run down to the resort center.
After Val d’Isère, the MBS teams will move on to ensure safety for upcoming international competitions, including the Para Alpine Ski World Cup in Tignes and Courchevel from December 16-20.
With years of experience and a focus on innovation, MBS plays a critical role in making sure events like the Critérium de la Première Neige run safely and seamlessly. Their work allows athletes to compete at their best and fans to enjoy the excitement of world-class skiing. As the winter season begins, their expertise continues to be vital for the success of top international competitions.
