Friday Fun: Shirley Lake Chinese Downhill @ Squaw Valley USA

Miles Clark |

On March 31st, 2010 at Squaw Valley USA, over 100 innocent humans waited for nearly an hour to ski terrain so flat that they knew they wouldn’t be able to make a single turn.  But, this is Squaw, therefore the humans here are powder hungry snow freaks that will do anything to get at fresh, frozen H2O.

Yes, it was pure mayhem.  Just listen to my voice…  What was wrong with me?  I’ll tell you what was wrong with me:  I was going through the process of completely losing my innocence for the thrill of a few moments of ridiculous powder bumper skiing.  Over 100 innocent people lined up to hit that flat, powdery terrain that day.  Not one of them left the mountainside with their innocence.

Yes, humans were damaged in the making of this video.  One woman broke her leg and a man was lacerated by said woman.

“Yep, she broke her leg running over my husband. It was mayhem!! He walked away thankfully, but not without stitches. Her ski slashed up his elbow deep and ugly.” – KJ

It was a day that will forever go down in infamy…  or not.

(free high five from Eric Bryant for anyone you can tell us the exact time when a dude says “This is so weird”)

  1. Careful, I know hairfarmer and he is a nice guy. Yes Shirey Lake is easy intermediate crusing under the 6 pack.

  2. Ha Ha !!! I remember that day !! we just got off big blue skated 2 skates and the “ropes” dropped no waiting for us for the really really low angle pow , wasn’t steep but after what seemed like an eternity we got a Pow day … and it was really fun, even if it was just squirrely Shirley

    1. Interesting that you rode Big Blue considering it wasn’t built yet. Quit lying to try and make friends.
