What a difference an atmospheric river makes!
The NWS tweeted two pictures of the Sierra Nevada yesterday, one from before this week’s storm and one after.
The first image is from the MODIS satellite and the second is a current snapshot from GOES-West. Significant snow across the Sierra compared to before.
Many precipitation records were broken, and ski areas across the state received more than three feet of fresh snow. Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe both announced they will be opening this Friday, weeks earlier than planned, thanks to the snowfall.
Wow!
