Report from December 12, 2021
Brought to you by Grand Targhee Resort
Good news friends, it’s finally starting to look/feel like proper winter in the Tetons, and Targhee.
The ‘Ghee received a very welcome handful of inches, Friday evening through Sunday, Blackfoot Chairlift is OPEN; and the weekly forecast points to ‘snow.’
North-facing aspects continue to be the best bet for the solid skiing and snowboarding classic to Grand Targhee. Winds of 15-20 mph have added their mischievous touch to the so-far modest snowpack; one turn you’re railing over the hard stuff, the next you’re caught up in a big cold puff of packing peanut snow chunks. Add shifting cloud, and you’ve got yourself one zesty day of sliding downhill.
We found everything at Grand Targhee from pick-me-up powder to chalky base layer to wind scour. One area snow reporter referred to current conditions as “heads up hockey.”
But happily, our Constant is the most important aspect of all: we’re planks on at Targhee, in the Tetons and it’s getting better by the day. In fact, it’s snowing as I type so I guess I’ll see ya out there.
