Grand Targhee, WY Report – October 5th, 2016

by Mike Lynch

“Randomly checked out the Grand Targhee webcam around noon on 10/4. Saw the benches covered with a foot plus of snow so I split from work early. Left Jackson around 3 arriving at GT around 4 and skinned up to the top. It was deep! Planned on heading back the next morning with Bradly Parker knowing it would be deeper. Wed morning, pass is closed. Watched it continue to snow till the pass opened around 12, jumped in the truck and headed out to the ghee for round 2. Wed, October 5th was unreal. We made a couple top to bottom runs. Fckn amazing!” – Mike Lynch

Grand Targhee, WY Report – October 4-5th, 2016

by Bryan Gill

Grand Targhee has been skiing like it’s mid winter the last few days. Targhee is reporting 27” of new snow and a 24” base, which seems conservative up high anyway. There was likely more at the top of Dreamcatcher. Down to about 8800’ the snow was fairly dry and likely more like 36”. I was riding knee deep, bottomless snow, getting face shots turn after turn. Below 8800’ the snow was a bit heavier but definitely didn’t see rain. It wasn’t quite that perfect February snow that falls at 20 degrees; it was that real nice October snow that falls between 25 and 32 degrees. It would have been a decent mid February day, but truly these were all time early October conditions at Targhee. I suppose it may be unfair to compare early October conditions to mid winter conditions but here we are doing it anyway!”
