Heli-Skiing Helicopter Crash in British Columbia Leaves 3 Dead, 4 Critical

[UPDATED JANUARY 25, 2024]

Three people have died while four others are in injured following a heli-skiing helicopter crash in the mountains north of Terrace, British Columbia. The four injured people were initially taken to Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace but subsequently moved to other hospitals in British Columbia for higher levels of care. Two of the injured people are reported to be in critical condition while two are considered in serious condition. No identities have been released as of yet.

The incident, involving a helicopter operated by Northern Escape Heli Skiing, occurred around 4 p.m. on Monday, January 22.

At this point, the cause of the accident remains unclear.

Emergency services responded to the crash, including three air ambulances and five ground ambulances.ย The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and a CH-149 Cormorant from Comox were also involved in the response.

Northern Escape is working with authorities to investigate the crash and has contacted HeliCat Canada’s Critical Incident Stress Management team for support. In a statement, the company’s president, John Forrest, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the close-knit nature of their skiing community.
