We all love a snow day. Especially kids if the snow causes school to be canceled. This map shows the amount of snow it takes to close down schools.
The bottom line is the south can’t handle snow. Pretty much all the southern states from Texas to Florida will shut down at even the smallest amount of snow.
This mostly comes down to the preparedness level of these areas to handle the snow. If an area rarely gets snow, then the equipment (plows, etc.) available to deal with it is minuscule. So even a trace will cause closures.
On the other hand, the mountainous and northern areas in deep blue would have to have over two feet of snow to cause a closure. These areas are well equipped to deal with it. Sorry kids.
