
Banff Sunshine Village, Alberta, is experiencing an extraordinary March, with snowfall totals reaching an impressive 46 inches (117 centimeters) since the month began.
The recent stormsโ12 inches of snow in the last week, and 185โณ (470 centimeters) all seasonโhave significantly boosted the resortโs snowpack, which is now 70 inches (177 centimeters).
The timing of this snowfall aligns perfectly with the resortโs extended spring season. Starting March 15, all 12 lifts operate from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, with the Jackrabbit lift running until 5:00 p.m. This extension adds over 2,000 bonus skiable minutes to the season, which runs through May 19, 2025.
While March and April are historically the snowiest months in the Canadian Rockies, this yearโs accumulation is particularly noteworthy. Banff Sunshine typically averages 231 inches (587 cm) of snowfall annually, with an average of 92 snowfall days. The current March total has already surpassed half of the resortโs average annual snowfall.
Looking ahead, the forecast suggests more snow is on the way. Weather models predict an additional four inches (nine centimeters) of snowfall over the next seven days, with the next significant snowfall expected on March 28.
Banff Sunshineโs March snowfall has set the stage for an exceptional end to the winter season. With prime conditions expected to last right through the May 19 closing date, the resort is poised to offer some of the best late-season skiing in North America.
