The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying human remains discovered near Winter Park Resort, Colorado. On Saturday, August 17, a mushroom hunter stumbled upon what appeared to be a human skull in a densely wooded area between US Highway 40 and Mary Jane Road. The discovery prompted a response from multiple agencies, including the Fraser Winter Park Police Department, the United States Forest Service, the Grand County Coronerโs Office, and the CBI. They recovered the skull along with several other bones in the vicinity.
Despite a thorough search by Grand County Search and Rescue, the team found no additional remains. Initial evidence suggests the remains have been in the location for a considerable time, possibly years. The absence of identifying information or clothing complicates the identification process. A forensic anthropologist is examining the remains to determine the deceased’s sex, race, age, and estimated time since death.
The CBI encourages anyone with information related to this case to contact their tip line at (720) 295-6642, with the option to remain anonymous.
