Jay Peak Resort in Vermont has just crossed a massive seasonal benchmark, hitting 406 inches of snowfall after picking up 10 more inches over the last 48 hours. That’s a huge total for any mountain in the East—and it currently puts Jay ahead of Utah’s snow-heavy Alta Ski Area, which is sitting at 402 inches for the same date.

This kind of snowfall is rare in Vermont and may be approaching record-breaking levels for the resort. While exact historical comparisons vary, surpassing 400 inches in a season is exceptional anywhere east of the Rockies. Jay has built a reputation for scoring big snow totals thanks to its location near the Canadian border and frequent upslope storms. Still, topping western resorts like Alta is a big deal and not something that happens often.
