Ever heard of the California Triple? (Hint: it isnโt another secret burger fromย In โnโ Out) Itโs an action-packed day with some of Californiaโs most renowned sports: surfboarding, wakeboarding and snowboarding – all in one day. Visit California ambassador and Olympic gold medallist Jonny Moseley sets himself the challenge.
Joined by action-sport friends – big wave surfer Bianca Valenti and pro wakeboarder Josh Twelker – Jonny attempts the California Triple in Visit Californiaโs newย Jonny Moseleyโs wildest dreamsย series. Jonny and his pals start with a sunrise surf session at Pacifica Beach in the Bay Area, hot foot it over to the California Delta to tackle an afternoon on a wakeboard, and then end the day testing the fresh powder at Lake Tahoeโs Squaw Valley. The only question is, will they complete it in one day?
Feeling inspired? Here is how you can try the California Triple yourself:
Step 1 โ A morning surf in San Francisco Bay Area
Pacifica is home to some of the Bay Areaโs best surfing beaches, such as Linda Mar State Beach, which is one of the most popular mile-long stretches of beach just north of Pedro Point. It can produce a fun and challenging swell but is also perfect for beginners to pick up a board and try the Californian sport, not forgetting to also pick up a post-surf breakfast burrito before carrying on for the day. Youโll need the energy!
Step 2 โ Midday wakeboarding in the California Delta
At mid-morning drive northeast of the San Francisco Bay to the California Delta (near Sacramento). It is a 1,000-mile network of inland waterways that is the major drainage from the snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east of San Francisco. The calm waters make outstanding conditions for water sports and outdoor enthusiasts. Try some gnarly jumps before dashing up to the mountains.
Step 3 โ Catch the last lift in Squaw Valley, North Lake Tahoe
With the water activity under your belt, itโs time to hit the slopes and catch the last lift of the day. Head east to the Sierra Nevada Mountains and find yourself at North Lake Tahoe. It might be almost June but snow is still falling fast and heavy! With the resort scheduled to be open until July, this picturesque playground is ideal for savvy powder seekers. Here you have a full range of options, from easy riding progression parks to wide open bowls. Not forgetting the incredible wrap-around views of Lake Tahoe, skiers and boarders can see the Nevada Desert and the High Sierra Mountain tops, all at once!
