Kaj Zackrisson, aka Flying Squirrel, is one of the best freeskiers in the world. He’s easily recognized on the hill by his insanely long, blond dreadlocks.
Kaj just cut off those dreadlocks yesterday and he looks like a different person. It must feel wild to have those things gone after all this time. We think he looks great and we can’t wait to see him crushing snow in another ski edit soon. He’ll definitely be faster, right?

Kaj is from Sweden and has a bucket full of accolades to his name including many ski movie appearances and three wins at the Verbier Xtreme comp. The Verbier Xtreme comp is the most extreme comp of the extreme comps. If you win this thing, you’re one of the big boys and Kaj certainly is one of the big boys.
I was lucky enough to be in Verbier for the comp in 2010. I got to watch Kaj win and I interviewed him afterwards. A very down to earth, humble, stoked guy. When they announced that he won, he ran around like a wild man on stage screaming and fist pumping. I love that. It’s boring when the guy who wins just shrugs his shoulder and whispers ‘sweet.’
Kaj is clearly fun to be around and he energy is appreciated by all. He screams and hoots as he skis lines and he skis them fast. There’s a reason he’s called the flying squirrel.
