Kami Rita Sherpa from Nepal climbed Mount Everest for the 30th time on May 22, beating his own record from just 10 days ago. As recently as Sunday, May 12, 2024, Kami Rita Sherpa had climbed Everest for the 29th time.
โThis morning at 7:49 a.m., Kami Rita Sherpa successfully summited the world’s highest mountain Mount Everest for an incredible 30th time.โ
โ Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Chief Executive Officer, 14 Peaks Expedition
The 54-year-old Nepal native has climbed the worldโs tallest mountain above sea level almost every year since his first climb in 1994. He could not climb Everest in 2014, 2015, and 2020, due to no climbing window opening. In 2009, 2010, 2013, 2019, 2023, and now 2024 he climbed the legendary peak twice in the short May window.
He first broke the record for most ascents in 2018 with his 22nd climb and has since only broken his record, earning him the nickname โEverest Manโ.
Kami Rita is a Senior Guide with 14 Peaks Expeditions and Seven Summit Treks.
If you think that this would be enough for the 54-year-old Sherpa, think again. He is planning on returning next year in May to extend his record.
