The Lone Peak Tram at Big Sky Resort, Montana, is in final preparations for the grand opening on December 19, 2023.
The final step in the tram’s commissioning process, the load test, is complete. The main goal of the load test is to ensure the tram’s load cell measurement system, motor, and brakes are performing correctly by simulating the weight of passengers inside the cabin during operation. The weight is simulated with water tanks to 110% of the maximum payload, about 12,800 pounds.

The new Lone Peak Tram will open to the public on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. A all-day celebration will mark the occasion including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, giveaways, and live music. During après in Mountain Village, guests can sip complimentary samples of Tram Cabin Mountain IPA, a custom collaboration with MAP Brewing to celebrate the new tram and the resort’s 50th anniversary.
