Loveland ski resort in Colorado plans on beginning snowmaking this week on September 27th, 2013. Loveland and Arapahoe Basin always battle it out to see who can open earliest.
Last season Arapahoe basin won the battle opening on October 17th. 6 days before Loveland.
Loveland got a dusting of snow on September 19th and they’re hoping for more of the natural stuff this week.
Colorado almost always has the first ski resorts open every winter season. This year likely won’t be any different. Boreal in Lake Tahoe, CA also puts up some early openings. We’ll see who wins…
“We woke up to fresh snow on the mountains at Loveland Ski Area. Mother Nature coated the upper parts of the mountain last night. Temperatures are dropping and we’re getting closer to making snow and opening the mountain for the 2013-2014 season. We are hoping to make snow in 8 days! The date on the countdown is the day we started last season is subject to change. Keep checking www.skiloveland.com/snowmaking to see the countdown to snowmaking stay up to date with all the snowmaking operations at Loveland Ski Area.” – Loveland Basin, September 19th, 2013
And Snowbird isn’t scheduled to make snow until November 1st…
