The month of January has been dry for Mad River Glen. They have been fighting with unseasonably high temperatures and not a lot of precipitation. This past weekend Austin Barta and myself went out to give it a shot. Surprisingly we made the best of what we had and it turned out to be pretty fun. Seems to be the trend this winter. The double was skiing very well especially after the 2-3 inches of wet snow fell saturday night.
editor’s note: ย Mad River Glen’s main mountain was closed for about 2 weeks in January. ย We’re stoked they’re able to get things open agin. ย
The natural snowย surface conditions are primarily packed powder. It will be pretty decent skiing out there, you just have to watch out for the “non-white” areas that abound – nothing out of the ordinary but truly a testament to how well maintained the trails are here at MRG. The bottom line is that we simply don’t need too much snow to ski many of our legendary trails which is a good thing this season. While the skiing is pretty darn good in many places it is still very, very thin out there so we certainly urge our skiers to be aware, ski with care and avoid skiing off trail. – Mad River Glen
