A Timberline Lodge spokesman says a skier has died after falling into a tree well on Mount Hood, OR. The Oregonian reports the 42-year-old man, whose name has yet to be released, was skiing with a friend when he fell into the tree well on Saturday.

โ€œAll of us at Timberline are heartbroken by the loss experienced at the mountain today,โ€ Jeff Kohnstamm, the lodge president, said in a statement. โ€œPlease be aware of tree wells and other deep snow hazards,โ€ the statement said, โ€œand always ski with a buddy while keeping them in sight.โ€

Timberline Lodge had received about 7 inches of snow since Thursday, according to weather reports.

Timberline Lodge spokesman John Burton says efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
