Man Dies After Falling Into Tree Well At Washington Ski Resort

A man died after falling into a tree well at the 49 Degrees North ski area near Chewelah, WA on Monday, according to the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office. It was reported that the man fell into the tree well backwards. 49 Degrees North Ski Patrol responded to the incident as soon as it was reported, just before police officers were able to arrive. The death is a tragic accident and is currently under investigation by the U.S. Forest Service.

Tree wells continue to account for a fair percentage of the annual ski-related deaths around the world. When skiing in a wooded area, it is always important to ski with a partner and to keep them in sight when doing so. Skiers have the ability to decrease the tree well-related deaths, so let’s educate our selves and do so. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family.
