Marmot Basin in Alberta, Canada, will be auctioning off chairs from its old Knob chairlift. According to the resort, the first 50 chairs from the lift will be auctioned off on Friday, June 28. The auction will run from June 28 at 9:00 am, until July 5 at 5:00pm. The chairs will then be available for pickup on either July 18 or 25, between 8:00 am, and 4:00 pm.
The Knob lift was replaced in time for the 2023/2024 ski season. The previous lift, also called Knob, was a fixed grip double, built by Doppelmayr in 1976. It remained in place for the inaugural season of the new Knob lift, which is a fixed grip quad with a loading conveyor, is also built by Doppelmayr. The new Knob lift is longer and has more vertical, going from 2,456 feet length across 891 feet of vertical to 3,563 feet length across 1,260 feet of vertical. It also has a higher hourly capacity compared to the old double, going from 1,425 to 1,704 pax.
Marmot Basin is a ski resort in Jasper National Park, Alberta.ย The resort has seven lifts and 91 runs spread out across 1,720 acres (696 hectares) of skiable terrain. The resort has a summit elevation of 8,570 feet (2,612 meters), and a base elevation of 5,570 feet (1,698 meters), which works out to a sizable vertical drop of 3,000 feet (914 meters). The resort receives about 173 inches (440 centimeters) of snow annually. This, combined with snowmaking efforts, allows for a ski season that lasts from November to May.
