Global economists have stated that markets are starting to slow and expect them to level off soon, but in the ski industry there has been only news of growth. For the last two seasons, there have been many announcements in the ski industry stating improvements and enhancements to resorts around the world.  Some of those include upgrading lifts, upgrading infrastructure, expanding new terrain, and improving guest relations.

Marmot Basin, which is located in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, just announced that it is replacing the oldest lift system at its mountain with a new fixed-grip quad chair with conveyor loading. This new lift will give skiers and riders access to Marmot Basin’s newest opened expert terrain on Marmot Peak at 8,261 feet.

Marmot Basin made this announcement on its website:

“The New Knob Quad Chair is under construction and is now in preparation for the 23/24 season! It’s time to start thinking about getting those skis tuned, your board waxed and your season pass locked and loaded, it’s going to be a winter for the history books!”

According to the announcement, the lift capacity of the new lift will be 1,200 people per hour and take under eight minutes to reach the peak. Marmot Basin also stressed that it adhered to all environmental studies and mitigations according to Parks Canada. These studies included: a caribou study, goat study, rare plant study, roosting bat survey, and migratory bird survey.

Marmot Basin also has a long-range plan in place for the future of the mountain that consists of four components that will be used to guide development and use in the future. Those are:

  1. Expanding snowmaking in the mid-mountain area.
  2. Enhancing parking and transportation access.
  3. Upgrading the Caribou Chalet.
  4. Glading on the slopes west of the mid-mountain chalets.

Winter is approaching fast and Marmot Basin is a great place to check out the beautiful Canadian Rockies this season. The new Knob Quad will get you to the top of Marmot Peak faster and give you access to brand-new terrain to hit as well. The new lift will open as soon as the snow allows in the 2023/2024 season, according to Marmot Basin’s announcement.
