Jake Dalbey’s dog Ullr has been missing for more than 11 months after the pair were caught in an avalanche at Chair Mountain, near Marble, Colorado, on March 17, 2023. Dalby has always been convinced that his loyal canine buddy was still alive but lacked proof. There were various sightings and blurry photos from kind hikers over the past few months, but nothing affirmed to Jake that it was Ullr and not another canine.

The uncertainty was eating away at Jake, who was struggling following not only the loss of his dog but also the death of a friend during the traumatic avalanche as he was slowly recovering from his own injuries. With the help of a GoFundMe campaign, Jake employed the expertise of a specialist canine tracking team. Sightings were few and far between, but despite this and false alarms, Jake never gave up hope that Ullr was still alive. Stations with food and cameras were set up that were triggered by motion sensors but never yielded anything—until now.

On February 17 and 18, one of the wildlife cameras, Camera 2, snapped an image of a dog, which Jake confirmed was Ullr. Now that it is confirmed that Ullr is alive and in the area, plans can be made to safely return Ullr to Jake.

While this is very exciting news, and many readers will be eager to help, the best thing you can do is let the experts do their work and not travel into the area, possibly disrupting getting him to safety. So, we kindly ask everyone to stay put and wait for the good news on Jake’s social media account or here on SnowBrains. If you want to help, please send good vibes to Jake and Ullr or, even better, contribute to the GoFundMe campaign.
