Ski films have come a long way in the last twenty-five years.ย Not only have the athletes progressed in their skills, the filmmaking has gone to the next level. Epic cinematography, exotic locations and big budgets from outfits like TGR and Sherpas Cinema have transformed the modern ski film into artistic and athletic masterpieces. But can the average skier relate to the modern ski movie?

I think in some ways, the answer to that question is no, we canโ€™t.ย As a teenager I remember the agonizing wait all summer for two things: the fall issue of Powder Magazine and the premiere of the latest ski film. When Powder came out it gave my buddies and I a chance to pour over every page and obsess over all the new gear and the photo gallery from the previous season. The latest films from Warren Miller and Greg Stump were our doorway to imagining what was possible not just for sponsored athletes, but for young, aspiring ski bums like us. – Dโ€™Arcy McLeish/Last Frontier Heli
