Report from December 23, 2023
Yesterday, we got out into the Lake Tahoe backcountry in the morning.
Powder, sunshine, smiles, old friends, rotten rock towers, good times.
From the backcountry, we could see Mt. Rose ski resort across the way.
It looked glorious…
One sumptuous groomer run was basking in the sun.
We got back to the car and I took one ski boot off…
3 minutes later I pulled into the Mt. Rose parking lot, parked damn-near on the snow, slapped that boot back on, and grabbed my Ski California Gold Pass.
I was on the Lakeview chairlift by 3pm trying to figure out where that sun-flooded run was exactly.
I found it, it agreed with me, and I lapped it with glee.
Rose is legit right now with plenty of snow and 6 outta 8 chairlifts open.
There was a little side-hit at the top, the groomer was soft and sun-kissed, and the bottom had a fun mini-park.
I cranked 5 laps before they shut down the lifts and sent us home.
I skied right back to the car feeling light – feeling wonder.
What a day.
What a world.
Thanks, Nevada!
