NOAA: Up to 22″ of Snow for Teton Range, Wyoming This Weekend

NOAA is has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Tetons in Wyoming this weekend. ย They’re saying that up to 22″ of new snow could fall by Saturday night.

Game on in the Tetons. ย Grand Targhee opened today and Jackson Hole opens next week.

NOAA’s Winter Storm Watch:

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.

* SUMMARY AND TIMING...LIGHT SNOW WILL BEGIN TO FALL IN THE
  MOUNTAINS TONIGHT...SPREADING INTO THE VALLEYS BY SUNRISE AND
  BECOMING MODERATE TO HEAVY IN INTENSITY. SNOW WILL START TO TAPER OFF
  AFTER MIDNIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...10 TO 18 INCHES EXPECTED IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO 22 INCHES... 6 TO 10 INCHES
  EXPECTED IN THE VALLEYS...WITH UP TO 12 INCHES POSSIBLE IN
  FAVORED UPSLOPE LOCATIONS OF THE VALLEYS.

* WIND AND VISIBILITY...WINDS WILL INCREASE FROM THE SOUTHWEST
  WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH IN THE VALLEYS AND GUSTS TO 60 MPH POSSIBLE
  ON EXPOSED PEAKS THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL SHIFT TO
  THE WEST SATURDAY EVENING AND WILL BE LESS GUSTY. EXPECT
  WIDESPREAD AREAS OF REDUCED VISIBILITY IN FALLING AND BLOWING
  SNOW...ESPECIALLY ON THE PASSES.

* IMPACTS...HEAVY SNOW...BRISK WIND AND BLOWING SNOW MAY LEAD TO VERY
  DIFFICULT TRAVEL ACROSS THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS THIS
  WEEKEND...AS WELL AS INCREASE THE AVALANCHE DANGER...PLEASE
  VISIT WWW.JHAVALANCHE.ORG BEFORE VENTURING OUT INTO THE BACK
  COUNTRY THIS WEEKEND. COOLER TEMPERATURES AND STRONG WINDS WILL
  ALSO CAUSE WIND CHILLS TO DROP TO DANGEROUS LEVELS.
