Steamboat Springs, CO ended up in the bullseye of last weeks big storm that marched through Northern Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.
Many areas of Wyoming were forecasted to get over 10โ of snow last week in the higher elevation. For Steamboat to have pulled off getting 12โ of new snow in town was kinda freaky.

Lots of new snow in October in Colorado can be a mixed blessing. Yes, we want snow but no we donโt want old rotten, faceted October snow that creates weak layers lasting into May.
Last April, when 5 backcountry skiers and riders died in an avalanche near Loveland Pass, CO, it was thought that the layer that failed on them was an old faceted October snow layer.
They ended up getting a foot of snow in town. Welcome to winter, Steamboat.
