Report from Wednesday, December 4

It is always a great feeling when your local ski resort opens for the first time for the season. You know that not every trail and all the facilities will be open, but you want to go anyway. For most skiers and snowboarders, it might have been almost eight months since they have been on the slopes. So, getting any time back on the mountain and hitting the slopes would be worth it.

Today, Jack Frost, Pennsylvania, opened its slopes at 9 a.m., making it the first resort in the state to open for the 2024-25 ski and ride season. The Opening Day celebration included a ski-through banner break on One Park, a live DJ (Appalachian Entertainment) slopeside, free Donut Churro Rings, Swag, and coffee. Jack Frost opened with the three beginner trails, Frosty, Snowflake, and Powder Puff slopes, and One Park (Jack Frost’s terrain park) opened as well. Jack Frost also had the Pocono and Tobyhanna lifts running on opening day. โ€œWe are excited to kick off the 2024-25 ski season in Pennsylvania. We appreciate everyone who came out today to join us,” Tony Santora, Jack Frost’s General Manager, said in an interview with SnowBrains.

The conditions were great, considering Jack Frost did not start making snow until last Friday. The temperature was in the mid-20s during the day, and the slopes consisted of hard-packed groomers. There were no bare spots, and the coverage was impressive for opening day. There were also other trails at the top of the mountain where snowmaking had taken place but had yet to be groomed. The snow on these trails and the consistently colder temperatures should allow Jack Frost to open these slopes very soon. “Conditions are great, and we are looking forward to an amazing season,โ€ Santora said.

One Park was the day’s best run, going from top to bottom with two features. The trail was hard-packed and held together nicely, and you could edge nicely if you picked up enough speed. The three beginner slopes ran only to mid-mountain but were perfect for beginners or skiers looking to shake off the rust from last season.

Looking to future events for the 2024-25 season at Jack Frost, guests can expect a full calendar of events,ย including Women In Powder First Fridays, Topsy Turvy Day, Saturday Smores, and live music at E2000. Some of Jack Frost’s signature events for the 2024-25 season are the Smore Fun presented by Nature Valley on Saturdays, December 14 through March 1,ย  Women In Powder First Friday on Friday, January 3, and Topsy Turvy Day at Jack Frost on Saturday, February 1.

It was a great opening day for Jack Frost and the winter enthusiasts throughout Pennsylvania for the first ski resort to open in the state. There was a great atmosphere and vibe in the air, and the staff and guests were all stoked to be back on the mountain. This weekend will see six more resorts opening in Pennsylvania: Seven Springs, Montage Mountain, Blue Mountain Resort, Shawnee Mountain, Bear Creek Mountain, and Blue Knob Resort. That would make it official that the state of PA is ready for the 2024-25 ski season.
