Exactly!!
The day Alpine Meadows was ruined forever. Farwell old friend and thanks for the many great memories over the past 30 years!!
It’s a (very expensive) marketing scam just to say we have this giant ski area, instead of two distinct ski areas, which it still pretty much is, other than being able to access KT from Alpine. When the whole community was against it, it was sold as a transportation alternative to get cars off the road. Unfortunately, it only runs during normal mountain operating hours. It would be a lot more useful in that regard if it was open a couple hours before and after the ski areas were open, possibly eliminating a lot of the gridlock on 89 between Alpine and OV if people could just drive to whichever they are closer to. Of course it’s not necessary, but some people will ride it because it’s there, even though you’d lose a large chunk of your ski day going back and forth. No way it gets removed, but money hold is always a possibility. That $64 million could have put a pretty big dent in housing issues here.
Seems that the consumer is going to pay for this 64 million dollar scenic ride to the next mountain? What does it really offer? I’d rather ice skate in the winter and swim in the spring. What ever happened to all the extra activities that gave the consumer more things to do than ski? I’ll give the BASE to BASE 5 years max, before it’s removed because nobody is usng it.
