Operations Update: Delays & Closures Possible Following Intense Storm

The biggest storm of the season is here, and it is intense. If you skied this morning, you know that visibility was low. The wind wasn’t as much of a problem until midday; slowly, due to both wind and snow safety, we closed several lifts at both Alpine and Palisades, with the Palisades side eventually closing for the day entirely just after 1pm. Snowfall is going to continue throughout the evening and through tomorrow, and we expect it to impact tomorrow’s operations.
When we get large amounts of snow all at once like this, it sends us into full “reset” mode. During a snowfall event, while we continuously perform avalanche mitigation as conditions allow, unmarked hazards get buried, we can lose access to some of our roads, and ramps get covered. This means that we essentially are “starting from scratch” after each storm. That shouldn’t make you panic – It’s something we do all the time. It just means you should be prepared for delays or closures as we go through the motions of re-opening.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR MONDAY
We cannot say for certain how things will go tomorrow morning, but based on experience with similar weather events and how today went, our best guess is that lifts will be slow to open. As always, we will start with lower mountain lifts on both sides and work our way up. We cannot make official calls until the storm has continued pushing through and our teams get out there. We will post updates in the morning on our social media channels, including the Mountain Operations X (formerly Twitter) account, and send notifications through the Palisades Tahoe App.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR TUESDAY
We are still too far out to make specific calls about what will happen on Tuesday. The weather is supposed to clear a bit, with the possibility of snow showers. Again, delays are likely as we work from the bottom up to open. If we think there will be major updates to the schedule, we will post another blog tomorrow night. Otherwise, take silence as a sign that Tuesday will be a normal post-storm day with delays for snow safety and digging out.
