Thanks to eight inches of fresh snow, with more in the forecast, Palisades Tahoe, California, announced yesterday that it will open the Granite Chief chairlift today, Friday, December 13.ย The opening brings the total number of operational lifts to 22.

Granite Chief is on the back side of Palisades and is a playground for advanced intermediates who want a challenge and for advanced skiers who love steeps, trees, bowls, rolling terrain, and maybe a hike or two up to Granite Chief peak. This diverse zone also offers tree skiing bordered by groomers and hike-to-terrain, providing views of the lake and surrounding wilderness.

โ€œThe Granite Chief zone is like an entire different world compared to the other zones at Palisades Tahoe. The higher elevation guarantees dryer and deeper snow even during warm storms, and the bowls and chutes are wind protected during big storms collecting consistently deep perfect powder. There are so many little secret spots all around the Granite that it would take a lifetime to ski all of them, and it is away amazing to explore new pockets and lines traversing in both directions off the top of the chairlift.”

Palisades Tahoe is preparing for Tahoe Live, a music festival scheduled for December 14-15. The event features performers including Lil Wayne, Diplo, RL Grime, and Loud Luxury. Tickets remain available for purchase.

The resort has seen 59″ of snowfall this season and has a 31″ base, slightly above average (104%.) A further 12-18″ is forecasted to fall over the weekend.
