The exceptional heatwave and absence of wind allowed the paragliders to take off from near Chamonix, 6,500-feet below the peak, and rise up on the thermals to the almost 16,000-foot Haute Savoie-France summit of western Europe’s highest peak.ย The temperature on the peak was 50ยบF.
Pilots came from all over the world, especially from the United States, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
