Park City, Utah, is attempting to break its world record for the longest ski shot once again on October 12. The local Rotary Club “Park City Sunrise” and the distillery “High West Distilling” are organizing the event for the eighth time. The hosts want to use the event to raise over $60,000 ย for local charities. High West Distilling aims to serve 1,385 shots on around 560 skis. The event is taking place at 2 p.m. on Park Cities Main Street.ย
The fight for the longest shot ski has been a friendly competition going on for over a decade between Breckenridge, Colorado, and Park City, Utah. Breckenridge set the first world record in 2010 with a 422-foot-long shot ski comprising over 400 skis. The records have been wandering back and forth between the cities ever since.
The towns broke their records almost annually until COVID restrictions halted the friendly competition. In 2021,ย Breckenridge started the competition again by lining up 1,333 people in front of shot glasses mounted to skis. Then, in 2022, Park City broke Breckenridge’s record by serving 1,340 shots on 525 skis. Park City surpassed its record last year by lining up 1,363 servings of double rye whiskey. Now, Park City wants to break this record for a third time.
The shot ski event in Park City has always been used to raise money for local charities: Last year’s event raised $40,000, and the one in 2019 was $30,000.ย
The cheapestย tickets go for around $30 per person and only include a spot at the ski. VIP and sponsorship options start at $250 for three people and include a special “High West Distilling” branded shot ski.ย
The upcoming ski shot world record attempt promises another fun event that will keep the friendly competition between Breckenridge and Park City going.ย It will also be the most challenging one yet as the organizers have to sell more tickets than ever to meet their ambitious goals of 1,385 shots on 560 skis.
