Report from July 26, 2023

Yes, I know, you all want to hear about the pow — but let’s face it, it has not snowed in Australia in weeks, and it has been sunny during the day and freezing at night, so there simply is no powder skiing or boarding to be had at Perisher right now.

While I love powder as much as any of our SnowBrains readers, my favorite run on any given day is a quiet run, and there is plenty of that to be had at the moment. The holiday crowds have dispersed, the Canberra weekend warriors are not here, and the lift queues are nonexistent.

I love having a nice stretch of corduroy in front of me and being able to work on my carving turns. So come on down mid-week to enjoy empty slopes, no lift lines, and some sunshine. Weekends have been considerably busier, so if you can squeeze in some mid-week skiing, I promise you won’t regret taking time off work.

The temperature at night has dipped below zero on most nights, enabling the 129 snow guns at Perisher Resort to keep firing all night to ensure fantastic conditions during the day. There are 88 freshly groomed trails and 46 lifts running. All lifts aside from the Olympic t-bar and North Perisher t-bar have been running over the last few days.

Make sure to wear sunscreen!
