Last week saw the first natural snow of the season as a cold front swept across southeast Australia. Temperatures have dropped in New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria (VIC), and resorts in the Snowy Mountains have kick-started snow-making efforts to prepare for the opening weekend on King’s Birthday, June 8-10, 2024. Nothing quite puts the efforts into perspective like aerial photos — queue to your friend with a pilot’s license to deliver the goodies.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has forecast temperatures below freezing for the next five days, allowing for more snowmaking to prepare for Opening Weekend in two-and-a-half weeks.

While there is only a 5% chance of natural snow over the next 5 days, temperatures will be consistently below freezing, allowing snowmaking to prep for Opening Weekend at Perisher. | Image: Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM)

Here a short aerial tour of Perisher Ski Resort, NSW, (and Crackenback Resort) from above from Sunday, May 19.
