The race to open has already started. Arapahoe Basin is often a frontrunner for being one of the first resorts in North America to spin its chairs, and it looks like it is getting ready to be a contender again this year.

The resort posted this on its blog on Saturday:

“Our snowmakers are ready to go. All the fan guns and hoses and power cords are on the hill. The reservoir is full. Summer maintenance and Fall testing is complete. We will start as soon as the weather gets cold enough to make snow. Looking at the 7-10 day weather forecasts, I don’t see snowmaking conditions yet. So, enjoy another weekend or two of hiking and biking Fall colors. We will be making snow just as soon as the temps drop. “

Today, it shared images of the snowguns in action.

“Guns got fired up late last night and into the morning 🌨️🥳 while temperatures have still been high here in Summit County this fall, our snowmaking team is precise and ready to jump whenever the right condition window presents itself. Snowmaking is all about layering โ€” this first layer is all about getting a good base. Hopefully, more to come soon and keep hoping for colder temps 🤞❄️ #thankasnowmaker #prayforsnow”

This is common, as A-Basin usually starts snowmaking in late September or early October in preparation for a mid-October opening. In 2007, they even opened on October 10th.

Ultimately, Mother Nature will decide when they open, as the temperatures will need to stay cold for an extended period. But this hasn’t stoppedย people from getting excited about the thought of skiing soon.
