It is mid-October, but you could be forgiven for thinking itโ€™s mid-December judging by the pictures reaching us from Jay Peak Resort, Vermont. A solid 12 inches of snow fell at this New England resort in the last three days, flipping the switch from leaf-peeping season straight to ski season for a few days. While the snow wonโ€™t be here to stay, it certainly helps getting New England skiers and boarders excited for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Jay Peak Resort is located in northern Vermont, approximately 80 minutes north-east from Burlington. The resort offers skiing and boarding across 2,153 feet of vertical, reaching a peak elevation of 3,968 feet. A total of 81 trails are serviced by nine lifts, including the famous Jay Peak aerial tram which dates back to 1966 (but has been updated twice since).

Jay Peak is a slice of paradise frozen in traditional ski culture and offers some of the best terrain you can find in the East. The infamous โ€œJay Cloud,โ€ which is notorious for providing plenty of snowfall, wonโ€™t show itself until you are practically on the resort, where snow banks are twice the size as those just down the road. From tight trees and steep chutes to buttery groomers, high-quality parks, and some low-angle beginner terrain, youโ€™re bound to find what youโ€™re looking for. Jay is cold and windy; the mountain throws out all it can to make you earn those turns, and thatโ€™s what makes it special.
